Miag-ao Campus Dormitories

The Campus Life.

A Place to Stay
You can choose from 6 different dorms within the UPV Miag-ao Campus: Freshmen Hall 1 (FH1) Balay Kanlaon, Balay Lampirong, Balay Gumamela, Balay Lampirong, Graduate Hall, and Balay Kawayan.

They reside on a location are very accessible to transportation either by tricycle, multicab or jeepney. Every 8:00 am, 2 UPV buses transport students from Iloilo Campus to Miag-ao Campus. Tricycle service stays up to 9:00pm or you can hire one when coming back from town for about 25 pesos. Better yet, walk the well lighted streets with friends while the barangay security force ( BGY. TANOD ) keep you safe.

It is also close to the UPV Miag-ao Covered Court which houses the basketball court, Table Tennis playing area and PE classrooms. The Lawn Tennis court can be also found to left of the Covered Court.

The dorms can house from 50 to 150 persons at once. There are 4 bathrooms, 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the second floor. There is also a reception area which doubles as the information center and the social function area. All of the dormitories have TV and most of them have VCR and VCD players. There is also a computer room where students can place their computer units plus a minimum fee the electricity bill. There are pay phones installed on the reception area, a SITECO ( Southern Iloilo Tel. Co. ) and ISLACOM serviced phone and BROWN PHONE which is serviced by the Miag-ao campus telephone switch board.

The dorms security is covered by 2 guarded gates: BOX 1 at the main entrance near the New Administration building and BOX 2 which exists to a barangay Mat-y. There is a curfew for vehicles entering BOX 2 which stays open only until 8:00 pm. There is also a guard's box near Balay Kanlaon that watch over the students during the night while strolling the streets.

Food is never a problem since the CDH Cafeteria boxed in by the dorms and 3 other restaurants is just across the street. The need to keep in touch with rest of the world, there are 2 internet and game cafe to choose from just a few meters away.

The Upper Valley dormitory has an internet cafe and a restuarant which service its residents and other dorm residents. You can also avail airconditioned rooms for additional costs. It is located in front of the guard house on the left of the Covered Court.

There is a newly imposed curfew hour at 9:00pm, dorm fee start around P300.00 every month, 3 to 5 persons per room.

There are a hundred and one boarding houses scattered all over the towns adjacent barangays. These boarding houses offers low cost rooms for about P250 to P300, 3 to 5 persons per room.

They are usually a walking distance from the town and a lot more sober type, away from the frantic dorm life and less noise too, more students prefer this type of place for study. Food is no problem, usualy a few meters is a local restaurant and bar. Easy access to the supermaket and grocery stores.

You can arrange to bring other things with you like a fridge, TV, VCR, or a computer. If you can afford to rent the entire boarding house or a room like 300 per peson, that is 900 for a room for 3 person. You can have a lot of privacy and secure your own things.:)
