The Campus Life.
A Place to Stay
You can choose from 6 different dorms within the UPV Miag-ao Campus:
Freshmen Hall 1 (FH1) Balay Kanlaon, Balay Lampirong, Balay Gumamela,
Balay Lampirong, Graduate Hall, and Balay Kawayan.
They reside on a location are very accessible to transportation
either by tricycle, multicab or jeepney. Every 8:00 am, 2 UPV buses
transport students from Iloilo Campus to Miag-ao Campus. Tricycle
service stays up to 9:00pm or you can hire one when coming back
from town for about 25 pesos. Better yet, walk the well lighted
streets with friends while the barangay security force ( BGY. TANOD
) keep you safe.
It is also close to the UPV Miag-ao Covered Court which houses the
basketball court, Table Tennis playing area and PE classrooms. The
Lawn Tennis court can be also found to left of the Covered Court.
The dorms can house from 50 to 150 persons at once. There are 4
bathrooms, 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the second floor. There
is also a reception area which doubles as the information center
and the social function area. All of the dormitories have TV and
most of them have VCR and VCD players. There is also a computer
room where students can place their computer units plus a minimum
fee the electricity bill. There are pay phones installed on the
reception area, a SITECO ( Southern Iloilo Tel. Co. ) and ISLACOM
serviced phone and BROWN PHONE which is serviced by the Miag-ao
campus telephone switch board.
The dorms security is covered by 2 guarded gates: BOX 1 at the main
entrance near the New Administration building and BOX 2 which exists
to a barangay Mat-y. There is a curfew for vehicles entering BOX
2 which stays open only until 8:00 pm. There is also a guard's box
near Balay Kanlaon that watch over the students during the night
while strolling the streets.
Food is never a problem since the CDH Cafeteria boxed in by the
dorms and 3 other restaurants is just across the street. The need
to keep in touch with rest of the world, there are 2 internet and
game cafe to choose from just a few meters away.
The Upper Valley dormitory has an internet cafe and a restuarant
which service its residents and other dorm residents. You can also
avail airconditioned rooms for additional costs. It is located in
front of the guard house on the left of the Covered Court.
There is a newly imposed curfew hour at 9:00pm, dorm fee start around
P300.00 every month, 3 to 5 persons per room.
There are a hundred and one boarding houses scattered all over the
towns adjacent barangays. These boarding houses offers low cost
rooms for about P250 to P300, 3 to 5 persons per room.
They are usually a walking distance from the town and a lot more
sober type, away from the frantic dorm life and less noise too,
more students prefer this type of place for study. Food is no problem,
usualy a few meters is a local restaurant and bar. Easy access to
the supermaket and grocery stores.
You can arrange to bring other things with you like a fridge, TV,
VCR, or a computer. If you can afford to rent the entire boarding
house or a room like 300 per peson, that is 900 for a room for 3
person. You can have a lot of privacy and secure your own things.:)
